July Update
In Canada every day 9 people are diagnosed with some form of brain cancer. This is a shocking statistic. Another shocking number is that brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in young people under 40 and brain cancer is the least survivable of all cancers.
We often look at horrible statistics like these and are appalled but we somehow forget that each number represents a person whose life has just been devastated, a family whose calm and orderly existence has just been turned upside down.
This terrible scourge is why we support Brain Cancer Canada with a percentage of your donations.
On a much happier note we now know the names of the two young people that we will be sending to the Youth Summit that is sponsored by Ontario Nature every year. Here is a short C.V. of one them.
Chloe C (Markham, she/her) is loves birds, Dungeons and Dragons, theatre, reading, and all things music. She's a pretty outgoing person who enjoys talking with people who share the same interests as she does, and always excited to learn more about anything related to the natural world.
As an active member of the Ontario Nature Youth Council, Chloe will be supporting the planning of Summit activities and hosting and leading a birding workshop. She says: "[The Youth Summit] was an amazing experience not only for environmental awareness but connecting with different diverse youth and learning from people from all walks of life; the workshops were really educational and encouraged me to look beyond my usual scope of topics I'm interested in."
We think you will agree that she seems to be a remarkable young woman whom it is our privilege to support.
Jaunting for Julia Days are coming soon.
We were wondering if we could ask a favour? Could you pass the word about us on to your family and friends. You have been wonderful supporters and perhaps you would like to step up a little more. Why not go to your email lists and. give our email to anyone you think might be interested. We often hear
“oh I never heard of the foundation” and people are happy to support us when they hear about us.
Fundscript:
We have mentioned this before but we think it is worth mentioning again. See the paragraph below on Fundscript. Basically you shop and the foundation gets paid a percentage. It is really simple. You sign up, order a card for a grocery store for example and pay with the card the next time you grocery shop and the foundation will get a percentage.
Have nice summer, hopefully the weather will get better but don’t forget we need the rain. We’ll check in again sometime in August.
Jaunt away!
