August Update
We were asked recently to define our status as an organization. We are a public foundation, and our mandate is to pool resources from diverse funding sources to connect community needs with donor interests. Public foundations are crucial in mobilizing resources and supporting various charitable causes in a community.
As such, we address a broad range of community needs. Julia’s Foundation has focused on the environment, support for education and social issues. Your funds are carefully managed allowing for maximum effectiveness among the charities we support.
Foundations such as ours are subject to rigorous regulatory scrutiny including annual filing and reporting to maintain transparency and public trust, and we thank you for that trust.
Last month our good friends Margaret and Michael put on what might be termed a fund raiser. Margaret is a renowned artist both locally and internationally. Like most artists she has a large collection of artworks, some even her own. She has literally run out of wall space, and they have a lot of wall space!
So Margaret decided put a collection of her art on display. She filled her living room from top to bottom and invited her neighbours and friends to come and take whichever paintings they liked, or several if they wished. The only stipulation was that if they took a painting it was suggested that a donation be made to the little charity that could, the Julia Coey Memorial Foundation. Thank you Margaret!
It was a delightful afternoon with lovely nosh and lots of wine. Lesley and I were there and talked with a lot of people about the foundation. Great publicity apart from anything else. So how much was raised? As of a couple of days ago we had received donations in the amount of $3150.00. An astounding show of generosity from all who took part. So if this great story has inspired you why not simply donate to the JCMF . E-transfer is easy info@juliasfoundation.org or go to the website.
Thanks to our incredible donors who just keep on giving, our board of directors voted to disburse a further $10,000.00 this year. This means that a number of small but very necessary charities will receive a shot in the arm that they weren’t expecting. The best kind. Just the other day we received a huge donation right out of the blue and that is so encouraging. However it was anonymous which is so frustrating in that we can’t thank the donor, but thank you whoever you are.
You can reach us at info@juliasfoundation.org or Jim@juliasfoundation.org if you have any comments. We love hearing from you especially about your Jaunting for Julia forays!
Don’t forget it is easy to donate by eTransfer to info@juliasfoundation.org
